Accessing the Legal Profession

With regard to university degrees in Law, in addition to the changes involved in the European Higher Education Area, a royal decree was approved in October 2006 stipulating that, in order to practise as a lawyer, Law students must complete a Master's degree and formally conduct legal internships as a prerequisite of the Bar Exams. This regulation has been established with several objectives in mind, including:

. Facilitating the exercise of the profession in the international arena: Spain was the only EU country not to have regulated access to the legal profession.
. Ensuring higher training standards for lawyers and solicitors.
